This blog is mostly from our trip last autumn that was extremely beautiful and colourful but there are few pictures that were taken during the winter and summer season too. We spent our autumn break in Kuopio and I was mesmerized by its beauty. Where is Kuopio and how far is this from the capital of Finland Helsinki? Kuopio is about 380 km away from Helsinki and less than 5 hours of a car drive. It is located in the Northern Savonia region and based on Wikipedia it´s almost totally surrounded by a big lake called Kallavesi. Come and join me and have a small tour around the city in this blog.
Firstly, here is one picture that was taken during the summer in a colourful garden located in Hapelähde Park.
Autumn has a lot of colours like trees turn from green leaves to yellow, golden, red and orange.
A little far from the centre, we found a new place for a great walk and a great view. There is also a newly renovated playground in there, so with kids they have a reward after a walk and parents can also relax while watching or joining them play.
It is also a season when birds migrate to warmer countries to survive from coming cold winter, but few stays.
Next, I have listed here a few places to check when visiting Kuopio. The best place to see the entire city is going to Puijo Observation tower. There is a rotating restaurant up in the tower in the summertime and there is Puijon Maja restaurant down.
Passenger Harbour is a very busy place, there are many ships that are offering a day cruise to go around the islands. If you don’t want to be on the cruise, just walk around the harbour, enjoy the scenery and watch the sunset.
I like roaming the City centre doing window shopping, taking pictures or just wandering around. Here are many beautiful buildings too.
This Market Hall´s design is so beautiful and inside you can find different varieties of fresh meat, fish, sweets and bread.
Shopping malls and restaurants have a lot to offer. This pictures are taken in winter time before Christmas.
Picture of the church during summer, there are always colourful flowers in the garden in the front of the church.
Lastly, don’t leave Kuopio if you haven’t tasted yet their famous bread Kalakukko. It´s a loaf of bread that is baked with fish inside it. The best place to get this is just in the middle of the city centre. Note: I am not advertsing the said company below.
There are still many places I haven’t been in Kuopio like the famous resort Tahko but its because the place is out of the city centre and we have only limited time during our holidays, mostly we spend it in the centre. How about you? Have you ever been to Kuopio and what is the best place you like in this city? Are you planning to visit with kids?
