Yearly in Finland, there is the week-long winter holiday or ski holiday and we spent it this year in Lapland. That is because my husband works there this time and it is a great opportunity for us.
On our way home, we used the road going to Kemi and decided that we will spend a few hours there. This is a town in Botnia Bay in the Sea Lapland. What to do in Kemi for a day trip with very small kids? I honestly don´t know Kemi and I only heard about this from my friend’s blog. They spent their winter holiday a few years back in the castle and stayed in the snow hotel. So if you want to read how it is to spend a night at the snow hotel check her blog here. I will focus on this blog how we as a family with small kids, enjoyed and had fun during our day trip to the castle.
How did we buy a ticket? I always contact the place in advance to ask questions and I am very satisfied with their customer service. Check their website for the services they are offering. I found out that it is necessary to book in advance for a guided tour but we got information from them too that it is very clear and easy for everyone where to go, so we didn’t order a guide and we purchase the ticket on the spot. During our travelling there, it was very heavy snowing and visibility on the road wasn´t perfectly clear so we were so happy when we saw the sign for the castle, yes we arrived! Imagine the kids excitement inside the car when we said we are there 🙂

When we arrived, firstly, we paid for our ticket, the family ticket was perfect for us because we have two kids under 4 years old and the other two are already over four. Then we went outside to the Snow Castle hotel. Kids were almost running to rush inside the castle because of their excitement but good to see that there are warning signs just before the entrance. Honestly, they noticed it and acted as behave as they could.

When we stepped inside, it was like being inside the other world. Everything looks so artistic and fantasies.

Don´t forget to look up too! Arts and sculptures everywhere even on the walls and roof. There is a cafe before entering the hotel room and it is mesmerizing how everything looks so perfect.

The main cafe or restaurant has tables made of ice. It was really fun for my kids to sit there and a lot of questions too.

Then we went to check the rooms. It was a lot of wow and wow everywhere we entered. Kids are all so happy and excited, they even sit on the bed and wonder “Doesn´t this melt?”, “Are these really made of snow and ice?”, “Is it cold sleeping here?”. A lot of questions and that is part of the trip 🙂

I forgot how many rooms there are but I have a few pictures taken for those rooms I liked the design the most.

My eyes caught this red coloured hotel room, and it was no other than room #13.

Then after going through the rooms, my kids disappeared. Yes all of them, and where do they probably be? Of course, they found their own corner. I like the idea that they really have this kids corner there. They enjoyed

After a long time playing, we decided to go outside the castle and to go to SnowExperience365 room which is open whole year. On our way to the main building, kids found this big sledging place just outside. Unfortunately though, due to heavy snowing, it was difficult to sled still kids had fun.

If you also have more time than we do and want to experience snowmobile safari it is possible.

You can also book a cruise in the famous Sampo ice breaker and have the journey over the frozen sea.

Finally, we are able to enter the snowexperience365 with the same ticket. When we entered the room, the theme is Disney and our girls were very excited once again.

Overall experience was really great and we lost track of time because we all enjoyed and kids had activities to do all the time. It also was International Women´s Day when we visit and I really appreciate it when the staff gave me a rose for the celebration of the said day. I highly recommend the place to visit if you are passing by Kemi especially if it is winter but also in any season, the snowexperience365 is open.
That´s it for today. I will post more in the coming days about our trip to Lapland and where else did we visit. You can watch also our our youtube video below for this trip.
